Country and Midwestern Wins Book of the Year — Twice

Categories: News

Hello from summer 2024, otherwise known as awards season for books published a year prior. I’m proud to announce that Country and Midwestern is the recipient of several honors these last few weeks.

To start, Country and Midwestern is the 2024 Book of the Year according to the Illinois State Historical Society. I traveled to Springfield, the state capitol, to receive the award during a special luncheon of scholars from throughout the state. I was humbled to learn about all widely different projects that delve into the Prairie State’s rich history. To contribute something new to that greater understanding felt good!

A few weeks later I traveled to Nashville to attend the International Country Music Conference (ICMC) at Belmont University where Country and Midwestern won the 2024 Country Music Book of the Year — A personal honor considering I own and cherish many of the titles given this same award in recent years. To tell the Chicago story in Nashville was something I never anticipated, so thank you for the love, Music City! You can read about it in Music Row magazine here.

Finally, in April Country and Midwestern was named a history book of the year honoree by the Society of Midland Authors, a Chicago-based organization representing writers in 12 Midwest states.
